Benjamin Netanyahu hasn’t even formed his government yet, but already we are beginning to see how that new government will make things difficult for the White House. And the early indications from Joe Biden’s administration indicate a continuation of the weak responses that have characterized his policy toward Israel for decades.
While Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir have rightly gotten most of the attention, Netanyahu himself and his Likud party are also pushing for far-right policies. But the attention given to Religious Zionism obscures the pathetic kowtowing of the Biden administration to Likud and people in it who have done everything they can for years to interfere in US politics strongly in favor of the Republicans, including devoted Jew-haters like Donald Trump himself.
I look at all of this in my latest piece for Mondoweiss.
