The networks are calling the NYC mayor race for Zohran Mamdani. The NY Times just did too.
This is a wonderful night. There are so many ways this matters. This was a HUGE defeat for racism, a HUGE defeat for the staid, corrupt Democratic establishment.
This was a victory for people, for a vision of a diverse, cosmopolitan, and yes GLOBALIST city. It was victory for the coalition of Jews and Muslims who worked together for this night, and a defeat for the racism, nationalism, and hate that has twisted the legacy Jewish organizations that peddled fear and are losing our community to young Jews who believe in solidarity and love.
But most of all, this was a victory for the politics of hope. On the very day that Kamala Harris mourned her hero, Dick Cheney, demonstrating how her shallow “politics of joy” reflected corrupt politicians partying and dancing while their constituents can’t pay their rent and feed their children, Zohran Mamdani won on a politics of hope.
Zohran won on a politics of addressing the real problems not as a way to show how awful his opponents are (though he rightly did that too) but with ideas to address them. This was not, however, about policy, in the end. It was about a politician working to bring people together to confront the real issues facing us.
NYC, my beloved hometown, my favorite place in the world, showed what it looks like when people come together to support each other in the face of a federal government that is trying to divide and conquer us. Donald Trump and Elon Musk did us all a favor by endorsing Cuomo in the end!!!
We reject the politics of partying at Mar-a-Lago or at Democratic HQ while people are starving and homeless. We reject the policy of Islamophobia and a politics that treats calls for human rights and justice as antisemitic.
NYC has led the way. The knives will be out for Zohran Mamdani from MAGA as well as from corrupt, centrist Democrats. We all need to support the new mayor of the GREATEST FUCKING CITY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!
