Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and the Trump administration did a pretty good job of diverting the news cycle from Kamala Harris, the coronavirus, the attempt by Trump to destroy the US Postal Service and other stories Trump would rather you not pay attention to. They announced that Israel and the UAE had agreed to hammer out details of a deal that would, presumably, culminate in the full normalization of relations. The UAE was more reserved in its statement, but they joined the joint announcement that was full of triumphalism while thoroughly ignoring the Palestinians.

You can find my quick take on this event at Responsible Statecraft, including the theater around Israel’s annexation threat, and implications regarding Iran.
