Kamala Harris and Mike Pence squared off in the lone vice presidential debate of this election season Wednesday night. It wasn’t much to watch, unless you are particularly fond of flies getting stuck in hair product.

Pence was not about to answer the moderator’s questions and, after trying to do so for a while, Harris followed suit, likely out of concern that, if she didn’t, Pence would have an advantage at getting his message out while she was bound by the moderator’s questions. The result was a lot of propagandizing and minimal policy facts.

As such, Harris was playing on Pence’s home turf, so to speak. She acquitted herself well, and while neither of them probably came off as genuine to anyone who didn’t already support them, Pence’s considerable ability to craft lies in a rational, sedate tone was not up to the task of the mammoth falsehoods of the Trump campaign.

I dig in deeper on the debate for The New Arab.
