It’s already quite clear that the Joe Biden administration is focused–to the extent they’re paying attention to the Palestinians at all–on restoring the status quo ante that existed before four years of Donald Trump. Some may have thought that his anger at Netanyahu might have meant some sort of change in approach.
This is proving not to be the case. Biden’s delay in communicating with Netanyahu raised some eyebrows, and it’s true that this certainly was a show of Biden’s disapproval of Bibi’s embrace of Trump and the Republicans, going back to his agitating against the administration of Barack Obama. But Biden is not wavering a bit in his pro-Israel stance. I examine the vagaries of Biden’s love of Israel outweighing his distaste for Netanyahu in this piece at Responsible Statecraft.
