There is a promising bill in the House of Representatives, brought by Betty McCollum of Minnesota, that would *gasp* require that Israel obey U.S. law in its use of U.S. military aid. [A bill which counts ReThinking Foreign Policy among its supporting organizations]
While the political power to see a bill like this one pass may not be on the side of progressives yet, the amount of support this bill has already gotten–not to mention the fact that it exists at all–is a strong indicator that inroads are being made on Capitol Hill regarding the United States’ one-sided support of Israel and near-total disregard for domestic law, international law, the basic needs and rights of the Palestinian people, and just common decency.
I look at all this in my latest piece for The New Arab.
