In this piece at +972 Magazine, I look more broadly at the implications for discourse and advocacy that arise from this paper.
While many urge the US to “get out of the Middle East,” that remains a political impossibility. But this paper shows how that engagement, coupled with a partial reduction in US activity that the Biden administration does seem interested in working towards, could mitigate the destructive role US involvement plays. It’s a much more modest goal, even though it remains very difficult and ambitious, but it’s the best we can probably hope for at this point. I explain at +972.
