Deborah Lipstadt, whom Joe Biden tapped a couple of weeks ago as his new Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating anti-Semitism, was the very definition of a safe pick, She won; approval from pro-Israel hardliners as well as much of the pro-peace Jewish community.

Even the skepticism that was expressed was very restrained, such as that form IfNotNow, the anti-occupation Jewish group, which took what could best be described as a “let’s see how you do” attitude. That was, in my view, a wise position to take. As I explain in this piece for The New Arab, Lipstadt offers reason to hope that she will be a positive influence in this role, but also cause for real concern. Check it out.
